Such personal artefacts are essential to the portrayal of traditional Oriental costume whilst also evoking aspects of a society rich in history, art, social mores and symbolism. The opportunity to view these wonderful objects in close proximity provides the visitor with a small insight into the characteristics of the Chinese and Japanese cultures whose immense visual richness is often forgotten.
